Software engineer & technical generalist
Dublin, Ireland
I'm a generalist engineer: I learn new technologies quickly, move between them without friction, and take problems from a blank page to a finished, working product.
I've written C++ for more than twenty years and built for the web for twenty, from large WordPress products to custom web applications. My range runs from PHP and JavaScript to Python, Flutter mobile apps and low-level graphics, including my own game engine on SDL and Vulkan. Alongside the code I model in 3D and draw, so design and engineering happen in the same head. I use AI deliberately to work faster and cover more ground, without giving up judgement or quality.
Comfortable across the stack, from front end and back end to systems programming and graphics, with the depth to go all the way down when a problem needs it.
I pick up unfamiliar codebases, languages and tools quickly, and move between very different projects without losing momentum.
Expert use of AI tools for research, coding, review and automation, turned into real productivity gains rather than extra noise.
Fully autonomous when a project needs one person to own it end to end, and just as effective inside a team of any size.
Senior engineer at a Swiss company that builds custom survey platforms and psychometric testing solutions for universities, government agencies and enterprises, on its SurveyLab framework.
Premium WordPress contract development as a vetted expert on the leading platform in the field, recommended by WooCommerce, Automattic and others.
Eight years full time with the makers of NextGEN Gallery, the most popular gallery plugin for WordPress. I took their flagship photography theme from fragile legacy code to a secure, fully responsive product with one of the richest layout systems on the market, then worked on NextGEN Plus and Pro, e-commerce integration, and a Lightroom plugin with a companion Electron app.
My own company, focused on custom WordPress development and design. Its themes and plugins passed 1.3 million downloads combined, and its best-known plugin was acquired by ShareThis. Through Synved I've taken on contract work for web and WordPress businesses around the world.
Extended the core data API of the open-source 3D suite with around 10,000 lines of C, adding meta-functions that exposed internal C functions to Python automatically. This made it possible to build Blender's tools and interface from Python scripts. I maintained that part of the codebase as a member of the core team.
Web development at an Italian technology company of around 100 people, specialising in e-commerce, including the official Ferrari online store.
Web applications, SaaS products and e-commerce, and deep experience with WordPress themes, plugins and custom development.
Performance-minded C and C++ and real-time rendering, including a custom game engine on SDL and Vulkan and two complete, published games.
Six years of Flutter at expert level, including two full apps built from scratch for both Android and iOS, plus some React Native. On desktop, cross-platform applications for Linux and Windows.
Tools, scripts, plugins and pipelines that remove repetitive work and connect systems together.
Putting AI to work across the whole development cycle: exploring ideas, writing and reviewing code, and automating the rest.
3D modelling, drawing and vector work that feed directly into interfaces, game art and anything visual a project needs.
I also write fiction: I've self-published a book and completed two film screenplays.
